TPO Roofing: What You Get Out Of It

People who own their own company take a special pride in the building that they work in. Choosing all the different style and material options takes a lot of work. Especially when it comes to your roof, you need a company that offers both trustworthy and professional services. You’ll find just such a company in CCC Roofing & Construction.

TPO RoofOur roofers take the time out to go over with you all of your options, since you need to stay informed to make a big decision involving your roof. To help with that, we’ve gone over one of the material options for a new roof installation: TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin)

Energy Savings:

TPO has a reflective coating (and not just in the white color option anymore) that keeps sunlight from causing midday heat gain. Because of this, your wallet will stay fat from the money saved on our energy bill.

Durability:

Many single ply roofing systems don’t hold up to the durability of TPO. It offers a higher resistance to things like mold, gashes, punctures etc. This can conceivably save you money on repairs down the road.

Great Price:

People often laud TPO for the benefits it shares with PVC roofing. However, unlike PVC roofing, TPO doesn’t cost as much. To get a nice bang for your buck, you should consider TPO.

Remember, you can speak with our roofers at any time to find out about your roofing options. To find out about our services, give us a call at (866) 967-0140.

How Does Lightning Work?

When it comes to lightning, we all know to beware of it. But, do we know exactly how it works? The whole process actually proves very interesting. To help you understand it, we’ve created a quick overview of the basics of the whole process:

Lightning Strike

We all know lightning involves electricity, but the process goes like this; In a thundercloud (usually cumulonimbus), little bits of ice collide with each other over and over, which electrically charges the air much like your feet rubbing on a carpet creates static electricity. The protons (positively charge particles) stay at the top of the cloud, and the electrons (negatively charged particles) stay at the bottom. Since positive and negative charges attract, protons begin to amass on the ground below the cloud, usually at the highest point on the ground. Eventually, these charges connect and lightning strikes.

Did you know that more fatalities occur from lightning than from hurricanes and tornadoes combined? Anywhere between 75 and 100 people get killed by lightning annually. Lightning gets about 6 times hotter than the sun, at 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you ever hear thunder, make sure to get inside a large metal structure with grounded wiring or an automobile with close windows fast. A lot of damage can come from thunderstorms, most notably from lightning, wind and hail. If you require storm damage repair, CCC Roofing & Construction can help. Wood Shake FAQ

So, you’ve decided to consider getting a new wood shake roof installed, or you already have one, and you need some questions answered? We can happily help you out. To do this, we’ve put together some frequently asked questions regarding wood shake roofs:

wood shake roof

How long can I expect them to last?

With proper maintenance, you can expect your roof to last a full 20 years or more. Wood shake roofs in the southern states tend to have a bit shorter life-span if you don’t increase their maintenance.

How often do I need to have maintenance performed on my roof?

After about 10 years from installation, these roofs have to get checked out every 2 years to ensure they don’t deteriorate. The sun can make them curl and gray, eventually causing burn outs that leave the felt underlayment exposed. A professional roofer performing regular maintenance can replace these shingles without too much trouble.

Do repairs cost a lot?

The answer varies. If you’ve neglected your maintenance program, the price of repairs will go up drastically.

Hopefully these answered some of your questions about this roof type. If you’d like wood shake roof installation or repairs, CCC Roofing and Construction can help. For more information, you can call us at (866) 967-0140.

FAQs About Metal Roofing

Metal roofing has become one of the top choices of roof materials in recent times, especially for commercial purposes. Previously, we’ve gone over what the benefits of metal roofing include. Now, we present some FAQs about it. Hopefully, this helps:

metal roof picture

Does it affect the quality of my cell phone reception?

No, at least not noticeably. If you already have a sub-par reception at your home, however, it could act as the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back. The vast majority of people never notice a difference.

Does it make lightning strikes more likely to happen?

No, the material doesn’t affect where lightning will strike – only the height of the building does that. If your roof does get struck by lightning, metal roofs (unlike many different types of materials) won’t catch fire.

Do they negatively affect the environment?

For most varieties, no; metal roofs tend to be extremely environmentally friendly, as they are usually made of recycled materials. They also have a high level of energy efficiency, furthering their eco-friendly characteristics.
Hopefully these FAQs helped you understand a little more about this type of roof. Here at CCC Roofing and Construction, we offer metal roof installation alongside a host of other services. For more information, please contact us at (866) 967-0140.

Long Lasting:

Metal roofs are known for their long life span, up to 70 years or more. They’re one of the most durable options available. Lightning, high wind speed, storms, snow, you name it, a metal roof can take it. They’re also unaffected by mold, rot and insects, unlike other roof types like asphalt shingles or wood shake.

Fire Rating:

Even if struck by lightning, a metal roof won’t catch fire. They’re awarded with a Class A Fire Rating, the highest possible. Metal roofs are top of the line when it comes to fire safety.

Aesthetics:

Metal roofs come in a variety of options. Not only that, but they can be made to look like other types of roofing materials.

Low Maintenance:

All types of roofs require some maintenance. But compared to shingle or wood shake roofs, the time and cost spent on maintenance is much lower.

Warranties:

Most manufacturers offer a 20+ year warranty on their metal roof material. With the longevity/durability of this material, there’s no reason for them not to.

These are just some of the things to consider when weighing the option of a metal roof. Here at CCC Roofing and Construction, we offer metal roof installation alongside a host of other roofing services. We’ll do everything we can to walk through each option with you to ensure you’re happy with your purchase. For more information, please give us a call at (866) 967-0140.

6 Tools to Make Cleaning Your Gutters Less of a Hassle

Nobody likes cleaning their gutters. Still, it has to be done; when they get clogged water pools on your roof and causes damage. Fortunately, there are some tools to make the process go easier. Here’s 6 examples:

gutter

1- Ladder:

You have to get up there somehow. If your ground is level, you can use a free standing ladder. If not, an extension ladder is necessary. Make sure not to lean it against the gutters, as this can bend them out of shape.

2- Garbage bag:

Throwing all the leaves and debris on the ground just creates more work for later. Hang your garbage bag on your ladder for easy access.

3- Gloves:

Using your bare hands is a bad idea; there are often jagged pieces of metal that can cut them up. Find gloves with both a high level of comfort/mobility and enough thickness to keep your hands protected.

4- Gutter scoop:

When you don’t want to get your hands dirty, use a gutter scoop. They resemble a small spade and fit perfectly into your gutter to clear debris. When shopping to buy one, ensure that the handle/grip fits you well.

5- Gutter robot:

Technology is well on its way to doing our job for us. We can now buy gutter robots that clean our gutters via remote control.

6- Gutter guards:

Instead of cleaning your gutters, why not just stop them from getting dirty at all? Gutter guards stop leaves and other debris from building up.

These tools are great for making gutter cleaning easier. For any roofing-related questions, give CCC Roofing and Construction a call at (866) 967-0140.

Tips for hiring a roofing contractor

Photo of a roofHiring someone for a roofing job is obviously not a task that should be taken lightly. It’s crucial that you do your homework and follow certain steps to ensure positive results. Rachel Willard, a marketing manager with the Better Business Bureau, offers the following tips:

  • Do your research on each contractor you’re considering well ahead of time.
  • Get at least three estimates — but don’t always simply go for the cheapest. Willard points out that certain amounts reflect the contractor’s experience and quality.
  • Check their references. A reputable roofing contractor should have no problem allowing you to speak to a former customer.
  • Make sure each contractor you’re considering has all of the necessary licenses for your state as well as proof of insurance.
  • Go over the contract thoroughly. It should include several details, including the price of each part of the job, any warranties, estimated start/finish dates and an agreement about cleanup and trash removal.
  • After the job is complete, inspect your roof to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. Only then should you make the final payment for the job.

How do I prepare my roof for fall?

Fall Roof Preparation

Picture of autumn leavesAs the weather finally begins to cool down and the days of fall begin, homeowners are afforded the perfect opportunity to prepare their homes for the cooler days ahead. At CCC Roofing & Construction we are committed to helping you keep your home safe and warm for the upcoming season. If you are wondering, how to prepare your roof for fall, check out our autumn roof preparation list below.

Step One: Clean Those Gutters

The first thing to do when preparing your roof for fall is to clean the gutters around your roof. Summer may not seem like the season that clogs up gutters, but don’t be deceived. Summer storms may have driven twigs, leaves and other debris into your gutter system. As autumn approaches and the leaves begin to fall, it is important to have clean gutters at the start of the season. This will prevent water build up on your roof which can cause serious damage to your roofing system.

Step Two: Check Your Vents

If you have a ventilation system in place on your roof, check those vents to ensure they are properly covered. As the weather cools, little critters may try to find a home in your ventilation system if it is not sealed correctly.

Step Three: Inspect for Damages

Look over your roof for any noticeable damages that may have occurred during the summer months. A damaged roof can not only cause leaks, but can also waste energy as the weather drops. Your roof should be in tip-top shape to ensure you are as energy efficient as possible through the fall months.

Step Four: Schedule a Professional Inspection

Picture of roof inspectionIf it has been a while since you have had a professional roof inspection, now is a great time to have a roofing expert take a look at your roof. A trained roofer can spot damages early on and perform simple repairs before the weather changes. Having a roof inspection done in the fall can prepare you for the winter months ahead.

Remember, we are always here to help. If you have any other questions on how to prepare your roof for fall, don’t hesitate to contact us at CCC Roofing & Construction. We will be happy to assist you with your fall roof preparation.
